Three days ago I decided to give Diet Coke the boot.  There were numerous reasons why…

  1. The cost – I attended a seminar and there was presented with the truth about my financial situation and I needed to save money.
  2. The taste – My body was telling me that it no longer liked the drink or wanted it.
  3. I was embarrased when my friends continually were at me about drinking it.
  4. I made a deal with my husband that I’d give it up if he gave up smoking and I figured that unless I set the example, I’d be drinking Diet Coke forever.

Well I was very proud of making the decision and for the first day I experienced no side affects.  I was elated and thought to myself, wow, this is going to be really easy.

The next day dawned and I went for my early morning walk with a girlfriend, another new experience for my poor body.

When I returned from that walk I felt ill.  I started to get an ache behind my eyes and I felt fatigued in my body.  I decided to drop the kids off to school then go back to bed, thinking it must be tiredness.  When I awoke from my one hour nap, I felt even worse.  The pain behind my eyes turned into a migraine and by about 8pm that night my head felt like it was going to burst.  It was at this point that I realised I was experiencing withdrawal symptons.

Well the next day the symptoms continued and although the headache had dissipated the fatigue continued, along with pretty bad indigestion.

I am sharing this information with my readers, just in case any of you have a diet coke addiction, so that if and when you are ready to give it up, you will know what to expect.  I’m so glad I made the decision because I have known for a long time that it is poison to my body.  I guess now I want to bring all things into order and if that’s going to happen then it is up to me to make it happen.

I’ll keep you posted if any other symptoms arise.

One Response to “Giving Diet Coke the Boot…”

  1. I am now at 5 days without diet coke and I have broken out with a cole sore on my lip and ulcers on my tongue. I am experiencing a lot of fatigue and felt a bit depressed yesterday. Definitely noticed a lag in motivation. I will continue to observe my symptoms. I have not craved the drink, although I did struggle a bit today with feeling tired and wondering if I should just take it back so I have more energy. Thought didn’t take route though.
