Politics, religion and money – the three no-no’s for public comment, has just opened a can of worms in the men vs women arena.  This week’s raging debate on Blokeslib.com is that Men make better politicians than WOMEN.  Well, as you may have guessed, I am against and Peter from Blokeslib is for.

Pop over to the site and read Pete’s rather dismall attempt to point out the pathetic nature of women in order to convince the world that men make better politicians.  First there was his mention of one poor woman who didn’t cope with politics.  He forgot to mention that there was a Premiere of Western Australia that had to resign due to depression.  Oops, oh yes, he was a male, so I guess that blows that argument out of the water.  And really, a story about a woman chucking a tantrum about him cleaning the house?  I would be kissing my husband’s feet if he cleaned my house and I’m sure most of you women out there would agree with me.  Get a man on the end of a vacuum cleaner and we’d all be in heaven!

And what about his slur on women that they don’t have the balls to carry through on their convictions to bring lasting change?  I mean, if I didn’t know how desperate he is to win this debate, having lost many debates to date, I’d almost believe that he was the original chauvinist.  Dear Pete, perhaps you need to come to Western Australia to meet some real women who firstly appreciate a “handy” man with a helpful attitude and secondly, have the balls to carry through on their convictions.  I’m sure that the many, many women you now see in politics who have endured the cruel nature of the beast would be enraged by your comments.

Even when I consider the most dismall of all the Australian female politicians to date, Pauline Hanson, I am inspired by her courage.  She may not have stood for values that were important to me.  She may not have shared my fashion sense or my intelligence.  But the one thing she did do was to display tremendous courage.  Her fatal mistake was to trust the men that were around her.  I admire that she made a way in the political realm for other women and she also showed them the importance of being completely connected to your own values and not being a puppet for men to manipulate.  And finally, she had the balls to carry through on her convictions, misguided though they may have been!

Let’s see what the next decade brings to the political realm in Australia because we just might see a female Prime Minister before my life expires!
